My husband is not gay, says Supriya

The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Belapur division came under the scanner after news about the arrest of struggling Marathi actor Ajinkya Shinde for being involved in an extortion racket came to light.

According to a report in Mid-Day, as many as eight officials and a Marathi actor were involved in the racket. The report has quoted the actor Ajinkya Shinde's wife Supriya saying how the actor was lured by the GRP who promised him a police job if he worked with them.

Reportedly, Ajinkya had come to Panvel from Mangaon and had done odd jobs before coming in association with the police after his marriages to Supriya. The actor used to work with a few constables from the GRP who would make him stand near the urinals of the Belapur, Panvel and Kharghar stations and pose as a gay man. Reportedly, he was told to 'lure' gay men into the trap following which the police would extort money from them.

According to the report in the publication, Supriya said, "Jadhav introduced Ajinkya to constable Mangesh Rakshe, who told my heterosexual husband that he would have to pose as a gay man and try and attract homosexual men by standing near the railway urinals at Panvel, Belapur and Kharghar stations. He told Ajinkya that his part would involve just attracting the target and leading him to an isolated place, after which the GRP officials would take over. The policemen used to let my husband go and extort money from the target by threatening to expose their sexual leanings to their family and friends."

Supriya has also denied that her husband is gay. "My husband is not gay, he was lured into doing this for the GRP with the promise of money and a police job," she told the reporter from the publication.

The racket came to light when a bank employee, who was tried to be 'lured' by Shinde, reported the matter and even contacted the GRP commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal. Surprisingly, the report has also mentioned that Shinde was made the scapegoat and was the only one arrested while the constables involved weren't.
